a) Decreased Communication: Due to Time Zone differences, the number of hours that the Customer and Offshore team get to communicate with each other is limited. Gathering clear project requirements and ensuring that there are no gaps between what we understand and what the customer wants can be a big challenge in this case. Getting timely feedback can be another issue. Srijan addresses these challenges through the following steps:

i. While gathering project requirements, we give live examples or detailed screenshots of live applications alongwith supporting documents to enable the customer to visualize the end-product. This method has proved effective in all our offshore projects.

ii. Giving and getting a commitment on having regular Voice/Text chat sessions between Srijan’s and the Customer’s Project Managers.

iii. Releasing small portions of functional software at short intervals to ensure that the development is on track.

iv. Occasionally, we consult domain experts for insight into the requirements of our customers

b) Decreased visibility in Project Status: Customer does not get to know as and when he desires, the status of the project.

Srijan addresses this irritant by:

i. Releasing small portions of functional software at short intervals to allow the customer to test working modules/screens and also get familiar with the product

ii. Providing user-friendly Project Progress sheets detailing out the development

c) Installation and Training: Training users of the system can be an issue in offshore development.

More often that not, our customers have their Project Managers who take care of installation and training. However, to support the activity, we create Technical and Help Manuals, and also Videos (built using screen-cam software) of live application usage.

Installation of Web applications is never an issue, since we deploy working modules of applications in a development section of a live site.

d) Trust: Trusting the offshore team in resource allocation on the project and respecting cost and time commitments is a concern that customers have.
