DESCRIPTION
I am presently working in an asset management and disposal agency attached to the Office of the President where I am tasked to accurately document the meetings of the Board of Directors. I am also accountable for the timely dissemination of Board decisions and directives to concerned agency units. I produce our official newsletter; write external correspondence for the Board and the Office of the Executive Director; assist the Planning Section in the conduct of Annual Planning & Budget Conferences; aid in generating and consolidating reports, and lastly, in lending a hand to launch special agency activities. I also write speeches for the Board of Directors for special occasions.
I worked briefly with two non-government organizations, the National Confederation of Cooperatives (2000) and Bigkis Pinoy Foundation (2000 – 2001) where I assumed supervisorial tasks relating to advocacy, research, organizing and documentation work.
After graduating in 1992 with a Degree in Political Science from the University of Santo Tomas (UST), I have been employed as a member of the the largest ever fisherfolk coalition established in the Philippines where I rendered my humblest services by immersing in campaign, advocacy, lobby and press relations/media work for reforms in the fishery sector. I also performed secondary functions in networking, training, organizing, secondary research & documentation work. I also participated in the drafting and lobbying of Executive Order 240 which mandated the creation of Fishery and Aquatic Resource Management Councils (FARMCs) nationwide. Part of my work experience also included participating in planning and implementing national and grassroots-level campaign work on aquatic and agrarian reform, human rights, environmental and women-related issues. I was also responsible for contributing various information materials for Nacfar’s constituents, the general public, and the mass media. As such, I prepared press statements, brochures/pamphlets, campaign posters, postcards, and contributed news and feature articles to Nacfar’s quarterly grassroots publication “Daluyong”, as well as other primers about specific fishery and fishery-related issues. I was able to formulate media releases, press statements, and letters to the editor which were considered for printing in major newspapers and aired in television and radio news programs. I was also able to solicit media support in interviewing Nacfar’s main opinion sources especially on important issues and events. For years, I primarily related with the press, organized press conferences and media briefings, and facilitated media representatives in some exposure trips to selected coastal communities.
