IsThmus' clients look to leverage technology and also business processing skills and costs arbitrage in a near shore Costa Rican location (either sole sourced or as a compliment or risk mitigate to offshore). Many companies prefer closer same-time development, greater control and the better cultural continuity that near shore offers with the high quality and low costs that are achievable from offshore. We also selectively target F1000 firms that are looking to compliment their offshore activities by adding strategic near shore activities in order to mitigate IT risk and provide attributes such as proximity, same time zone, bilingualism, etc...to their mix.

Two recent articles that speak to Costa Rica's emergence in IT/BPO outsourcing. . 1. Business 2.0 article August 2005: "Why Latin America is the next India" focuses on Costa Rica, 2. CIO Insight (April 2005) article that places Costa Rica as the #3 most desirable global IT destination, after India and China, today. What Costa Rica may lack from sheer gargantuan global scalability, we make up for in logistics, proximity, same time zone development, similar cultures, English competency and legal/business educational systems patterned after the US model.

SKILLS
IsThmus provides the skill sets of approximately 400 resources with 200 IsThmus resources dedicated to application development and maintenance. Other core competencies include custom development, non-voice Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), eLearning, translation and transcription of applications. We are particularly deep in J2EE and .NET as it relates to custom application development and maintenance.

TERMS
IsThmus' pricing is similar to and often lower than offshore pricing. Our near shore rates for a mixed team of resources (PM, Sr Dev., Arch, Programmers) averages $30/hr while our onsite (client side) resources average $60/hr. Because it is quick and inexpensive to travel to or from Costa Rica and in the US we share similar time zones and cultures, clients do not need the amount of onsite resources that offshore companies utilize. We typically average 85% near shore work and 15% onsite work. Thus our "blended" rates of both near shore and onsite are typically lower than that of offshore options.
