For every project we follow the following model:

Prototyping

Projects that have a short development life cycle (less than 6 months), and for which formal specifications are not available in minute detail, lend themselves to development via prototyping. In this method, the customer remains a key player in the design, reviews and alpha testing. Based upon the understanding received by our programmers, we create a non-functional prototype. This prototype includes all the external features of the software or website, and for all appearances, it looks like the real thing. It’s called non-functional because there is no “programming code” behind it and the features do not really work. It takes several reviews by the customer and modifications by our programmers before the prototype if finally approved. Then, the programmers start building the backend software (and that is the easy part for us!). The functional prototype also goes through a few revisions, and with each revision, the number of features that actually work increases, resulting in the final product. The best thing in all this is no surprises!

Beta Testing

No matter how well software is designed or programmed, there will be bugs. And even if there are no bugs, the customer will ask for modifications. These modifications are forced because of feedback received from users. In most cases such suggestions from experienced users ca not be ignored and must be accommodated. To cater to this need, we budget a beat testing period in all projects.

Warranty

There is a fine line between beta testing and warranty. Warranty generally means fixing only those problems that violate formal specifications. In real life, however, it becomes difficult to draw that fine line and we end up doing work that is more like maintenance. But we go ahead and do that, because, after all we have emotional attachment with all work we do, and the production system reflects our company also. Your continuing success is our success. The beta-test/warranty period is 90 days on all our work.

Project Team

Having a team working on a project has its advantages. The most important one is that it provides a guarantee of continuity. If a team member exits due to some reason, the project does not suffer. Also, the team is around to do maintenance when the time comes. So, even in the smallest and trivia list project, we have the following team structure:

Account Manager

This is the person who handles the business aspect of the project. He or she remains in the loop from the very beginning until the end of the warranty period. The account manager monitors the progress and steps in if and when there is a need to coordinate schedules or budget issues.

TERMS
Software Development Methodology:
We develop software using a prototyping cycle. This has the advantage of providing you, the customer, with several reviews of the product before the final version is completed. At each review you get a chance to provide feedback, thereby making sure that the project is proceedings according to your wishes.

Schedule:
• Milestone 1: Contract Award (advance payment)
• Milestone 2: Prototype Demonstration. This is a non-functional prototype in which you can see all the screens and features that will be
present in the final product. There can be several reviews before we arrive at the final prototype. Work on the programming begins only after you approve the prototype.
• Milestone 3: 1st Working Version. In this version some of the features are included, allowing you to ask for minor changes in the requirements.
• Milestone 4: Final Version. In this version, all the features are provided.
• One-month Beta test during which we gladly make minor changes.
• 90-day Warranty after beta test ends.

Deliverables:
The product as finalized in the prototype. Thinkerz will install the final product on your server, provided access is provided via FTP, Telnet, Web Admin Panel, PCanywhere or FrontPage. The server must already have the necessary resources such as database systems, webservers etc. available.

Price:
• Programming of any kind: US $7 per hour
• Data-entry, beta testing: US $3 per hour
• Full-time programmer who reports directly to you: US $5,000 per month
• Cost of a typical project spanning one calendar month (2 programmer team): US $700
• Cost of a typical project spanning three calendar months (2 programmer team): US $1,400
