INDIA OUTSOURCING FREELANCER

DESCRIPTION
I am a copyeditor with more than fifteen years of experience in editing manuscripts of native and non-native English language authors concerning scientific and non-scientific material. I am fully conversant with current English (US or UK) usage in both formal and non-formal writing. For scientific editing I am fully abreast of, and apply, the latest scientific and mathematical conventions needed in typesetting. I am proficient in producing online or hard copy for both books and journals and have comprehensive knowledge and skill about their different formats and styles. Although all this while I was employed by typesetting and/or editing companies, I now feel I need to undertake freelance work from overseas clients/companies more, given the amount of skill and experience I have acquired. I have edited latest research material from the fields of law, medical, educational, biochemistry, physics, chemistry, mathematics, behavioural sciences, humanities, among a few, to the standards desired by the publishers worldwide. Some top scientific publishers whose material was edited by me while working for my principals include Kluwer Academic Publishers, Elsevier, Plenum, Marcell Decker, W B Saunders, Wiley (UK and US), Blackwell, Springer, AIP, ACS, Academic Press, Stanford University Press, Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, IOPP (UK) among others. Although I started my career at the desk in a top Indian newspaper and was a journalist for about a decade, I branched out into book and journal editing in which I have around 15 years of experience.

SKILLS
My main area of expertise lies in editing scientific medical research papers and books which involve terms and usage that is current and particular to the medical field and well understood by the medical fraternity and readers. The application of the relevant style guide as approved by any particular client/publisher (e.g., AMA Style Manual, CBE Style Manual or other) can be undertaken with ease to ensure the correct styling convention. The language shall conform to the desired standards of formal scientific usage. Here I would like to mention that papers submitted by non-native English speaking authors are also not a problem for me since I have experience in correcting or querying after suggesting change. I also prepare a detailed query or suggestion sheet for all individual manuscripts which is sent to the author for resolution. In the cases where the author is not able to resolve a particular query or suggestion on time before publication, I undertake troubleshooting for that portion with the permission of the Production Editor/author and seek alternate provision so that the material is finalised before the printer's date.

TERMS
Since I have already mentioned that I am working full time for my employers, I shall initially only be able to devote between 20 to 25 hours per week for editing on a freelance basis. During this duration I shall be able to produce only about 200-225 good quality pages of copy. Since my main aim is to provide good quality foremost, the number of pages produced would be limited. But if the client has a larger number of pages to be produced, I can take up the additional load which I can have edited by some other freelancers here for me, who happen to be in my touch at all times. If my qouted price and produced pages for the turnaround time are approved and work is extended to me, and the client is satisfied with the quality and schedule of the pages supplied by me, I can consider in the near future about taking up additional number of pages and starting this freelance work full-time by leaving my service. My charges for undertaking copyediting work are US$10 to US$12 per typeset page, which is quite competitive and way below the international, and Western country, rates.
