AFW consults on, designs and develops high record volume, online and/or offline financial and operational transaction software systems. AFW has extensive expertise in telecoms, point of sale, mobile device and smart card software development.

Application Frameworks (AFW) is a software development company based in Cape Town South Africa. AFW is a professional service delivery firm that has been in operation for more than 5 years. The firm currently employs 15 people, the majority of whom are from an IT/engineering background.

SKILLS
AFW has extensive experience in the design and implementation of high-volume / high-availability architectures. Enterprise level TPS (Transaction Processing Systems) require an in-depth understanding and experience of the availability, volume and scalability requirements. Our experience in this domain was grown from national scale TPS systems requiring up to four 9's availability (99.99%) as well as a 225 hits per second load bearing capacity.

We understand the imperative for such platforms to allow for systematic growth and evolution. This is why we make use of the most appropriate modular and service orientated design to allow for optimum scalability and flexibility. In this way we enable our partners to confidently grow their footprint without any concerns that their technology solution will be unable to keep up.

AFW has a wealth of experience in the telecoms industry and with telecoms technology and systems. We have solid experience in using GSM modems, analog modems (dial-ups), X.25 packet switching, TCP/IP and GPRS. Our expertise have been tested in a B2B and B2C live production systems environment that is 24/7 365 days a year with service availability higher than 99%. AFW is also capable of implementing offline systems using data replication between points.

We have implemented a nationwide pre-payment electricity system that runs over an MTN GPRS WAN. In other words, the pre-payment electricity vouchers are sold at numerous shops and the vouchers are generated and transactions are stored on a remote server. The communication between shop and server is done via Siemens “Twist” GSM modems using the GPRS communication protocol over the MTN cell phone network.

TERMS
AFW participates in projects on a risk sharing, partnership basis or on a time & materials, hourly rate basis, depending on the opportunity. AFW's hourly rate is R 400 per person hour (US$ 60 per person hour).
